The story behind the reservation
Some of my favorite people are the ones working quietly behind the scenes to make someone else's day unforgettable: the wedding planner who thinks of everything, the florist who transforms a room, the photographer who notices moments no one else sees, and the hostess who somehow makes every guest feel like the most important person there.
I've always been inspired by these kinds of people and their thoughtful details—not just the extravagant ones, but the quiet ones that really make people feel seen, welcomed, cared for, and remembered.
It wasn't until I found myself working alongside one of my closest friends in the wedding industry that I realized what I admired so much about those moments. They were never the work of one person. They were the result of talented people who cared deeply about what they did, each bringing something meaningful to the table. The planner. The florist. The photographer. The venue owner. The caterer. Different talents, one shared purpose. That's where the magic happens, and I've always wanted to be part of it.
I never set out to be a business owner. In fact, I made every excuse for why it shouldn't be me. Then one day, I shared what I thought was just a silly little idea.
"What if there was a spray tan company that simply came to you? What if you could schedule a standing reservation—every Tuesday, for example—and anyone who wanted a tan could reserve a time?"
My friends—the wedding planner, the florist and esthetician, the venue owner, the photographer and salon owner, and the social media guru—women who had each built (or were building) businesses of their own—looked at me with complete seriousness and said,
"Wait...you should do that."
It was such a simple moment, but looking back, I think they gave me something I didn't even realize I was waiting for: permission. Permission to stop assuming someone else would build the business I wished existed. Permission to imagine that maybe I could be the one to do it. In a way, it also felt like an invitation to pull up a chair beside the women I'd admired for so long.
From that moment on, Summer Society seemed to take on a life of its own. The idea stopped feeling like wishful thinking and started feeling inevitable.
I've been chasing the perfect tan for more than twenty years. I've tried just about everything, spent far too much money in the process, and became incredibly particular about what actually looked beautiful on real skin. I wasn't interested in trends or the darkest tan in the room. I wanted something believable. Something that made me look rested, polished, and a little more like myself.
Then one question refused to leave me alone.
Why isn't anyone doing this?
I wished someone had thought of it when I got married. I wished my sister could have booked it for her wedding. Honestly, I still wish someone would pull into my driveway every Thursday, give me a beautiful spray tan, and then just head to their next reservation.
That's when everything finally came together.
Summer Society was never about changing the spray tan itself. It was about changing the experience around it. Instead of squeezing one more appointment into an already overwhelming week, why couldn't the reservation become part of the occasion? One more reason to gather. One more thoughtful detail. One more business contributing to moments people were already excited to celebrate.
That's still the heart of Summer Society today: beautiful, natural-looking spray tans, gracious hospitality, thoughtful partnerships, and a genuine desire to leave every occasion just a little better than we found it.
Finally, this business wouldn't exist without the people who believed in it before I did. To the friends who championed me, encouraged me to bet on myself, and saw something I couldn't yet see—thank you. To the clients who patiently let me test formulas, compare products, and obsess over finding the very best solutions—thank you for trusting me. To the businesses and partners who have welcomed Summer Society into your communities, thank you for believing in what we're building.
And to our future guests...
Welcome to the Club.
